Kevin Nelson Dao

Kevin Nelson Dao was born in Arkansas during the winter of 1984. At a young age he became intrigued by the camera body and began taking snapshots of his mother and anything that caught his attention, but never pursued photography seriously until an early college course in the subject taught him how to utilize the camera as a creative tool. This discovery and his fascination with still imagery inspired him to pursue photography as a creative outlet. He took his creativity and passion to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Photography in 2009. His photography uses metaphors and symbolism to create interpretive stories about people, places, and things. He often uses dramatic lighting and monochromatic colors to create mysterious, sometimes surreal imagery that invites a sense of contemplation. His informal, contemporary style is well suited to the fine art world as well as the editorial and fashion markets.

In 2011, Kevin took his most valuable possessions, hopped into his best friend’s car, and drove to New York City to live the dream that most people only talk about. He has since had several exhibitions including work shown at The Hotel Chelsea and Space Womb Gallery. He has also been published in noted New York fashion and art photographer Andrea Blanch’s online publication, Musée Magazine No. 2 The Fear Issue. He currently manages his own photo studio in Brooklyn while keeping the dream alive.
