Picturing The Holy Land

This collection of photography and poetry is my artistic response to my first trip to the land that is considered holy in the Abrahamic religious traditions.

In the summer of 2011, between my second and final years of seminary, I was the beneficiary of a Ministry Fellowship from the Fund for Theological Education, to be used on a project that would further my spiritual growth as a future ordained leader of the church.

I chose to use this grant to make a three-week pilgrimage to Israel and the Palestinian territories, visiting the places most sacred to my own Christian faith as well as sites sacred to Jews, Muslims, and Bahá'ís. I sought to explore the sense of the sacred across traditions and nurture my calling to interfaith dialogue at the same time as I deepened my own faith in spiritual preparation for ordination to the priesthood in The Episcopal Church.
