Howdy picture lovers.
It came out pretty good. When I got it in the mail via Fedex Ground, I must say that it wasn't has hefty as I had hoped. The silk paper is on the thin side and not very glossy. That's why it's called satin, I guess. The cover, however, is extra glossy and eye-catching. Maybe too glossy! Another disappointment was the color balance. To my taste, it was slightly too green. Most people won't care, but I pay attention to the accuracy of skin tones. If you're picky about this stuff, you should probably ask for paper samples and some tests of the photos that you're going to use. Lastly, your photos will be digitally printed, so they're not going to look as good as the 4x6 prints that you have done at the drugstore or those kiosks at Kinkos. But I knew that going in.
Here are the technical details of how I put it together:
I did the layout on Adobe InDesign. I created 3 PDFs: front cover, back cover, and the interior pages. I used the FTP upload method because the interior PDF was over 100 MBs (which is a huge file). It took about an hour to upload, but it worked. I dowloaded and ran the free SmartFTP 3.0 software application. SmartFTP has good tutorial videos that made the process easy. I also read the PrestoPhoto PDF requirements. Don't forget to convert everything to RGB when you're creating the PDFs. And if you're doing 2-page spreads where one photo spreads across 2 pages, check out the samples that they show on this website.

Dennis
