Nine Nests

Nests and their denizens just inspire as Enduring Style just is. ~ This second photo essay is a presentation of Enduring Style through many disparate collections and organized around my collection of nine nests. Each nest, itself an example of enduring style, is accompanied by the lore surrounding its entry into my collection. Then follows a photo essay of Enduring Style inspired by various nest denizens: from the fat frosty little birds designed by famed Renee Lalique to a century of exotic birds in porcelain and fine scarves. ~ In the reference section of this photo essay, I also offer timelines that reflect the ebb and flow of Enduring Style embedded in the “record of the rocks” from the study of pre-history through to present; as well as that embedded in other disciplines I have studied to date. As a curious person, observations accumulate at a rapid rate. Holding on to those observations and being able to use them to see even more is the milieu of the curious. My timelines are my place for attaching what I have learned and observed. Each timeline allows me to gaze deep into an area of interest and go back and forth in time. It is in this process of gazing up and down, back and forth that consistent underlying principles emerge regardless of stylistic differences. ~For over 50 years now, objects have made their way into my repository via gifts from others as well as found objects from my daily pursuits. Although not an intentional collector, the end result appears to be a collection. However, the intention here is more akin to a repository as once conveyed by Rudolph Ackermann in The Repository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufactures, Fashion and Politics he published for 20 years beginning in 1809CE. While Ackermann's works represented his wide-ranging interests -- articles on water pumps, along with fashion plates and furniture designs; they also depicted the very essence of style in early 19th-century England. While documenting the collections of a time; by happenstance, may I be so lucky to create a treasure trove that rewards exploration.
