The Castle at Maryvale has been enchanting students, brides-to-be, and visitors for decades. Long before students ever walked its corridors and brides descended its grand staircase, this castle was Wickcliffe, a home. Walter Forman Wickes, a doctor from Kent County, Maryland, married Catherine Young Hobart, the vivacious daughter of one of the richest men in Chicago. Their marriage began a legacy of education, philanthropy, and community in the Green Spring Valley. They welcomed local children into their home for dance lessons and tennis.
