How can I start a group photobook, with many "authors"?

I want to start a class project where multiple students may contribute to a single photo book, heavy with comments rather than photos. Is this possible? What are some of the limitations that we should watch out for, if the number of contributors may exceed, say 50? Can we individually upload photos and write comments, or does there have to be a single "author"?
