PRINTING CHECKS

Is there any kind of pre-press checks from your people? some of the pdf guidelines seem to contradict themselves above..(use Acrobat 5, use Acrobat 6) I have a book with lots of transparencies.. has lots of old photos I've converted all to CMYK Tiffs or Grayscale. Just worried about it printing correctly b/c it's important job. Just curious if anything flags majorly wrong if you let us know or not.
